Metro Bowhunters Resource Base is a non-profit organization in the Twin Cities of Minnesota that collaborates with local landowners to help keep deer herds at sustainable levels.

Please Note Before You Enroll: 

Crossbow Restriction: The use of a crossbow in any MBRB hunt is limited to those 60 years of age and older or those who have a medically documented physical disability which precludes them from using traditional archery equipment or a compound bow.

Special Announcements:

  • Enrollment period for the 2026 deer herd management operations, opens on May 15, 2026
    • Enrollment ends on July 31, 2026 (at midnight)
  • All completed proficiency test must be uploaded no later than September 1, 2026. Upload your signed bow shop test form and your target (in one picture).
  • The Three Rivers Park District – Elm Creek deer herd management hunt – will be conducting a pilot program testing the unrestricted use of crossbows.
    • All other hunts remain unchanged, (crossbow usage currently is restricted by the MBRB to hunters over the age of 60 or having an MD letter stating injury or disability requiring the use of a crossbow vs a vertical bow.)
    • ALL hunters (crossbow or vertical) will be allowed to apply to Elm Creek.
    • Hunters applying as part of the pilot unrestricted use of a crossbow at Elm Creek must use a vertical bow if applying for any other hunts.
    • Hunters applying as part of the pilot use of a crossbow at Elm Creek must send a “Contact Us” email to let us know they intent to apply for this.  You will receive additional information about proficiency testing.
    • The “pilot” crossbow hunters that are selected for Elm Creek will be emailed with more information regarding the details of unrestricted crossbow usage.
    • Elm Creek deer herd management operations will be conducted on:
      • Oct 16-18 & Nov 20-22 Mandatory Orientation meeting Sept 29, 2026
